General Education Reviewer for LET

General Education (GenEd) accounts for 40% of the LET Elementary weighted average and 20% of the LET Secondary weighted average. It tests your foundational academic knowledge across six subject areas: English, Filipino, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

This reviewer covers the essential topics, key concepts, and commonly tested items for each GenEd subject. Use it as a study guide to identify areas that need the most attention.

1. English

English questions on the LET test grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and literature.

Grammar and Correct Usage

• Subject-verb agreement: Singular subjects take singular verbs. Compound subjects joined by "and" take plural verbs. Subjects joined by "or" or "nor" follow the proximity rule (the verb agrees with the nearer subject).
• Pronoun-antecedent agreement: Pronouns must agree in number and gender with the noun they replace.
• Verb tenses: Past, present, future, and their perfect and progressive forms. Pay attention to consistency of tense within paragraphs.
• Modifiers: Dangling modifiers and misplaced modifiers are common LET traps. The modifier must be clearly connected to the word it modifies.
• Parallelism: Items in a series or comparison must follow the same grammatical structure.

Reading Comprehension

• Main idea: What is the passage primarily about? Look for topic sentences and recurring themes.
• Inference: What can be concluded from the passage that is not directly stated?
• Tone and purpose: Is the author informing, persuading, entertaining, or criticizing?
• Context clues: Use surrounding words and sentences to determine the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary.

Literature
